Office Stretch Breaks

When we sit for long periods of time, specific muscles become short and tight. There is increased compression on structures to the front of the body like the spinal discs, and prolonged elongation of structures towards the back. This can set the stage for the development of pain, numbness and tingling.
Taking a mini-break every 30 min or at least hourly will not only keep the circulation of body fluids moving, but will also relieve tightness and pressure through stretches and reversal of the posture of prolonged sitting. This is an easy way to relieve the pressure on pain-sensitive structures and prevent a range of conditions including lumbar disc prolapse, back ligamentous sprain and carpal tunnel syndrome.
