How are sports injuries in Vancouver treated with physiotherapy?

Our physiotherapists in Vancouver are experts in physical movement and optimal function using the ABC approach A- Align, B- Balance, and C- Center. After thoroughly assessing your physical condition, they will prescribe you a tailored treatment plan based on your specific needs to help you achieve your goals.

Your physiotherapist may include the following modalities in your physiotherapy plan: stretching and manual therapy to reduce scar tissue and joint restrictions, sport-specific movement training, and strengthening exercises to optimize muscle activation patterns.

Treating sports injuries in Vancouver

The most common types of sports injuries include:

Knee Injuries

The knee is a complex joint, and also one of the most commonly injured, especially during sports involving running, jumping, and quick changes of direction. Knee problems can range from minor aches and pains under the knee cap to more serious issues like an ACL tear (causes laxity and giving way) and meniscus tear (causes clicking and locking).

Shin splints

Lower leg muscle tightness can cause shin splints. Shin splints can be excruciatingly painful and prevent you from completing your game or running course. However, they can be avoided by wearing appropriate footwear, stretching, and warming up before exercise.

Strain or “pulled muscle”

A strain occurs when the muscle fibers in a muscle are stretched beyond their breaking point, resulting in a “pulled muscle.”  For partial or complete tears, the muscle may be left to heal on its own or require a surgical repair. For a minor strain, deep tissue massage and stretching are normally very effective for healing.

Sprain

A sprain happens when a ligament that connects one bone to another becomes overstretched. This could be an ongoing issue and take some time to recover.  This is because the ligament has less blood flow than a muscle.
